Photofuse was founded to develop and bring to market the novel Retinal Thermofusion technique for retinal detachment repair pioneered by Associate Professor Wilson Heriot.
In collaboration with the University of Melbourne and the Center for Eye Research Australia, the novel laser based iSeelr™ console and intraocular handpiece are in “first in human” clinical trials. This work has been funded by Congressionally directed Award, U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command funding W81XWH-16-1-0787 and W81XWH-21-1-0730.

This advance in retinal surgery should lead to enhanced patient outcomes through simpler and faster surgery independent of environmentally harmful intraocular fluorinated gas, prompt visual recovery, better vision clarity, and quicker return to normal activities, including air travel.
